Our DIN 439 Hex Thin Nuts (also known as Hex Slotted Nuts or Low-Height Nuts) are engineered for applications where space is constrained and a standard nut profile is unsuitable. Manufactured to the exacting specifications of the German DIN 439 standard, these nuts provide a reliable and secure fastening point with a significantly reduced height. Their precise, low-profile design makes them the ideal choice for locking mechanisms, thread protection, and assemblies with limited clearance, without compromising on the strength and wrenchability inherent in the hexagonal form.

Key Features & Benefits
Space-Saving Design: With a height approximately 0.8 times the nominal diameter, these thin nuts solve clearance issues in tight spaces where standard or thick nuts cannot fit, enabling more compact and efficient designs.
Excellent Secondary Locking Function: Primarily used as a lock nut in conjunction with a standard nut below it. The thin nut is tightened against the primary nut (jamb nut technique) to create a friction lock that resists loosening from vibration, making it a classic and reliable locking solution.
Thread Protection & Spacing: Perfect for protecting exposed threads on studs, shafts, or bolts from damage. Also used as a precise spacer or adjustable stop within an assembly.
Full Hexagon Wrenchability: Despite the low height, the full hexagonal shape provides ample surfaces for secure wrench or socket engagement, allowing for proper torque application during assembly.
Metric Precision: Conforms to DIN 439 dimensions, ensuring consistent quality, accurate threads, and reliable performance in metric-based designs and repairs.
Material & Finish Variety: Available in various grades and surface treatments to meet different strength and environmental requirements.
Intended Applications
DIN 439 Thin Nuts are versatile components used across multiple industries:
General Machinery & Equipment: As a jam nut to lock primary nuts on adjuster screws, lead screws, and bearing assemblies.
Automotive & Transportation: In confined engine compartments, gearbox linkages, and brake system adjustments.
Electronics & Enclosures: Securing components within tight panel spaces or chassis where standard nuts are too tall.
Furniture & Fixtures: As a low-profile fastener in assembly joints and adjustable fittings.
Piping & Plumbing: Serving as a lock nut on valve stems and regulator fittings.
Repair & Maintenance: Ideal for repairing stripped threads where full nut engagement is not possible, or as a temporary spacer.
Installation Guidelines
As a Lock Nut (Jam Nut Method):
First, thread and tighten the standard primary nut to its specified torque.
Then, screw the DIN 439 thin nut against it.
While holding the primary nut stationary with one wrench, tighten the thin nut against it using a second wrench to create a locking friction force.
For Thread Protection/Spacing:
Simply thread the thin nut onto the exposed threads to the desired position to act as a protector or spacer.
Note: When used as a lock nut, the thin nut is always placed on top (away from the bearing surface), with the primary nut bearing the direct clamp load.
